For over two centuries, The National Museums of France sculptor-casters have been reproducing sculptures with a thorough respect for the original artwork. The greatest museums, such as the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay and the Château de Versailles place their trust in their expertise in making casts of their finest statues.
Through their expertise, the craftspeople of the cast workshop both conserve a collection of 6,000 casts and pass on the savoir-faire of sculptor-casters and patinators.
Located in a vast building in Saint Denis, just North of Paris, the National arts ateliers contain the extended collection of sculptures, both reproductions and contemporary commissions from private wealthy clients. The tour will also show the workshops where the crafts people are working on different sculptures in many different materials. All cast sculptors will of course show their techniques but also answer any question.
This exclusive and rare visit is possible only once or twice a year.
The meeting point is outside La Plaine Stade de France RER B station at 1:30 PM
